Our wedding was a complete washout! We had scheduled our wedding for June 18, 2011 months in advance.
We had a beautiful ceremony planned in the town of Barneveld, New York where there is has been a beautiful park built overlooking the majestic Trenton Falls.
So, our wedding day arrived and there we were sitting at Morey’s bar which was located one block west of Mappa Hall where we were to hold the reception, staring out the windows watching the rain fall; seemingly by the bucket loads.
Kim, my beautiful bride, was totally dejected. Her chin was dragging the floor so hard I was worried she’d develop a callous or get a splinter.
We were standing around praying the rain would quit by 2pm - wedding time - and it was 1:30 when I had a grand idea:
I jumped up and said, “Its raining, yes! But… does anyone hear any thunder?”
I slowly made the brightest smile possible and said, “I don’t either! A little water never hurt anyone… and if there is no lightening, there’s no reason we can’t still have the wedding we planned.” I said, “why, in my army days we called that ‘liquid sunshine’.”
A Few people brought umbrellas, some had raincoats and at 2pm, we stomped out across the street through the rain and puddles, and we had our wedding.
Afterward, while drying off at the reception hall, Kim looked at me with her big blue eyes and said, “Thank you for being you today.”
